MY OH MINI- is a concoction of motherhood, marriage, fitness, fashion, travel, and story telling.
Liela Thurling, socially known as Mini, founded M.O.M and has created this platform to fulfil her passion for writing. From 2016-2018 she returned to study, completing her Degree in Journalism, during second trimester of the first pregnancy.
Working for almost a decade in the health and fitness industry, where she continues to work, it was time to pursue her career in Journalism. Although dancing and teaching dance will always be her first love, she’s also a Personal Trainer (Muscle Artistry), bodybuilder, Posing Coach and qualified World Fitness Federation (WFF) Judge.
From 2013 she entered her first bodybuilding competition and continued to do so year after year, as a figure competitor and fitness model, until 2017. Along side competing she also taught dance in studios across Melbourne of all ages for almost a decade. Styles including- Hip Hop, Urban Choreography, Contemporary, Lyrical, Burlesque and Dance fit.
Unfortunately, the nature of these industries are seasonal, so to fill in the gaps she also owns and operates a small domestic cleaning business. A skill she finds rewarding as she helps families organise their lives and households. She is often affectionately known as your “friendly neighbourhood Kmart Kondo”. Her own home also reflects these skills, as she is all about routine and giving everything in her house a home and functional purpose.
Consumed in work and competing life became hazy, until she met her husband, Ashley. He helped share the weight of the world and so stereotypically, brought new meaning to her life. And the idea of starting a family started to become reality. Their relationship is best described as a “habitual attraction”.
A few months after her last show in 2017, Liela and Ash found out they were expecting a little bundle of joy!
A new era, a new beginning their little family was born.
2018 Winter was nearing an end and Melody Storm was born at 4:28pm after a 16.5 hour labour. Maternity leave lasted 6 months, after baby #1 and she was ready to return to the work force and became a qualified Lash Technician as well as her other jobs. This would allow her to work from home in between being a mum and working in the gym. With one Winter baby it only seemed fitting to have a Summer baby too. Lyric Reign was born, February, four days after his due date, unlike his older sister who arrived two weeks early. As a family they had achieved so much including getting married, travelling, and now three become four.
Finally two kids later and she’s ready to launch her platform, MY OH MINI, or M.O.M for short.
